  • The library’s network is open to all visitors free of charge and without filters.
  • No special encryption settings, user names, or passwords are required.

A laptop computer with a WiFi Internet card that supports the WiFi standard (also known as IEEE 802.11b or g)

    Quick Setup Settings

Test your connection. If connection fails, you may need to adjust the following settings:

  • DHCP = Obtain an IP address automatically
  • DNS = Obtain DNS server address automatically

    Configuring Wireless Network Settings

We recommend that you note any settings that are already configured in your TCP/IP settings before you change them as you will need the original settings to connect to the Internet when you are away from the library.

  • Windows XP

    1. From Control Panel, select “Network and Internet Connections.”
    2. Click “Network and Internet Connections.”
    3. Click “Network Connections.”
    4. Right-click “Wireless Network Connection” and open the Properties for the wireless adaptor.
    5. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and select the Properties button.
    6. On the General Tab page, select “Obtain an IP Address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically.”
    7. Click OK on the Internet Protocol Properties window, and then click OK on the Wireless Network Connection Properties window. Your computer will now be configured to access the Internet via the wireless adaptor.

    Windows 2000 Network Settings

    1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network and Dial-up Connections.
    2. Right-click on “Wireless Network Connection” or “Local Area Connection” and select Properties.
    3. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button. If more than one TCP/IP protocol is listed, look for the one associated with your wireless adapter.
    4. Select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically.”
